Most of damage to homes were to those built pre-1960 - with many built in the 30's and 40's.  Wooden homes were hit harder than the concrete block ones.  There are very strict building standards for cyclone-resistant homes nowadays.  Ours is concrete block, filled with cement, with galvanized roofing to meet very high winds.  They 'render' the walls with textured cement, so they look like stucco.
