| The photo is a bit blurry but shows son Chris viewing a giant cassowary in the wild - back in August 2004. Cassowaries are large birds - almost the same height as an emu but heavier - and are fruit eaters. They are located in a very small part of Australia - our local wet tropic rainforests - and are endangered. They are most often seen in the Mission Beach rainforest. With the trees now denuded and so much clutter on the forest floor, there is much fear of the impact on these incredible birds. | |
