Metallic Starlings are one weird bird.  They have red eyes and normally look black, like the one at the top of the photo.  In the sunlight they're more of a metallic blue like the lower one.  But the REALLY weird thing is their nests.  They make these flimsy-looking looking nests which are just hollow bags of straw hanging precariously from a limb.  There's a big tree in Tully which had dozens of these nests and there were often nests on the ground - which isn't surprising because they look so flimsy.  After Cyclone Larry, they were ALL gone.
