This is a King Parrot, perhaps the most striking of the local parrots.  We had only seen a few King Parrots in the wild when we were taking our son, Chris, and his wife Kim on a drive through the Atherton Tablelands.  Kim said she saw something in a bush so we stopped and there were several of these King Parrots right by the road.  That was an extraordinary afternoon.  In four hours on the tablelands with Kim and Chris, we saw Crimson Rosellas, our first two Cassowaries ever, these King Parrots, and then a Duck-Billed Platypus!  After Cyclone Larry, we saw several near our home for the first and only time.  The Tablelands were hit hard by the cyclone so I assume they were displaced.
