The Jacana is a very special bird for us.  We had seen a photo and couldn't believe that any bird could have such long toes!  Our nephew John spotted the first one we had seen and since then we look for them wherever there are lily pads or leaves floating on water.  Their incredible toes spread their weight out so they can stand and walk around on surfaces that would sink under an ordinary bird.
