This funny-looking bird is a Straw-Necked Ibis because of the feathers that stick ou from his neck.  The only other type of Ibis in Australia (which is in the next photo) is just the same except it's mostly white.  It's called the Sacred Ibis.  We think the Straw-Neck got the short end of the stick in the naming!  We like to imagine the Sacred Ibises calling them "Straw-Neck!  Straw-Neck!" in a superior kind of way.   This guy is trying to maintain his dignity despite his lesser social status.  They are a VERY common bird around Cardwell and most of Australia.
