The Parkes radio-telescope is one of the most powerful of its kind in the world.  We were excited to see it because it is the subject of a wonderful movie, "The Dish".  It tells the absolutely true story of the first moon landing, when no other dish in the world was able to pick up the TV signals from Neil Armstrong's walk on the moon.  It wasn't planned that way but Parkes was able to do it at the last minute or else we wouldn't have had the most dramatic live TV broadcast in history.  This dish is in the middle of NOWHERE, surrounded by sheep pastures.  We highly recommend the movie.
