One of the differences is that lizards have ears and snakes don't.  You can see the ear hole behind the eye in this great close-up that Patti shot.  Another difference which you may be able to see is that lizards have eyelids and snakes don't.  And you can see that the head shape is different from a snake.  But they move just like a snake.  Very curious.
