Our son, Chris, is holding a koala at the Billabong Sanctuary.  Koalas may be THE cutest cuddliest animals around.  We were disappointed to find that even though they are very common in some areas, they are also VERY hard to see in the wild.  They hardly ever come down out of the trees.  They sleep over 20 hours a day and they tend to stay away from people.  We finally saw two of them on Magnetic Island near Townsville.  Deforestation has cost them a lot of habitat so they are endangered in some areas.
