This is a croc show at a sanctuary. We've also seen this at Steve
Irwin's zoo, but unfortunately he wasn't there at the time. It is
really quite impressive. This croc was invisible underwater except
for his eyes just a second before this shot. He was stalking the
guy at the left, who held out some meat. The crocs can use their
tails to launch themselves several feet out of the water very quickly
but then are quite slow on the land. Even though this guy does a
show twice a day, the croc never stops wanting to eat him. The
croc sees him as food and there have been several instances where the
crocs have inflicted serious injuries when the person slipped.
Their jaws come together so hard and fast that you can't see it - you
only hear a loud crack as they come together. A big croc will kill
a horse or a water buffalo with no problem. We were nervous
about living around crocs at first. But the trick is that you
just don't go within six feet of a body of water where a croc may live.
Simple. You just concede that territory to them and everyone's
happy. Crocs kill someone every once in a while but alligators
kill people in the US once in a while, too. It's not such a big
deal. |
