This is an un-retouched photo of a sunset when we were about 1,500 miles from the nearest land and hadn't seen anyone in over a week.  It's a funny feeling to look at something beautiful and realize that you may be the only people in the world who can see it.  Except in very bad weather, Patti always tried to fix a nice dinner and we would sit in the cockpit together at sunset to eat it.  Incidentally, we never had liquor underway - it was hard enough to stay alert on those long night watches.  One other note - we wore our life vests at all times except when we were below and the person on watch was always attached with a safety line so that they COULDN't fall overboard.  So the off-watch person could sleep well knowing that the on-watch person was safe.
