The village performed a very odd dance for us. Like many dances
related to the crops, the men did a lot of stomping - I guess it
stimulates the crops or something. But the women and girls ran
around the outside and jumped up and down as high as they could.
Since many of the women were very well-endowed the breasts were flying
everywhere. Many of the women pressed an arm across their breasts
to slow them down. Yakel was the only place in Vanuatu where I
felt a little uncomfortable - like I was intruding and also like people
were putting on a show for us to make a little money but not really
enjoying it. Still, it was a glimpse of a life I could never have
expected to see otherwise. After all these Vanuatu photos, I hope you
understand why this was the most interesting place we ever visited. |
