Back in Port Vila, this is the huge market. Six days a week it's
full of every kind of produce, meat, and some cooked food. Prices
are posted and the people are very easy to deal with. No pressure.
You may have dozens of people selling bananas or whatever you're looking
for so you browse until you find it. The market itself is a social
center since it's mostly the same people spending all day with each
other. These markets exist in all Pacific island countries and we
really enjoyed them. But there was also a pretty good regular
grocery in town for staple items, as well as a few pretty nice
restaurants. Vanuatu used to be jointly run by the French and
British. They're gone now but the French food influence remains,
thank goodness. |
