This is Tim and Cindy's wedding day. They're in the dinghy on the
right. Chief Nelson wanted to give us a special arrival.
Traditionally, when visitors arrived by boat to an island, they were
greeted by ferocious warriors who threatened them until they were
satisfied their intentions were peaceful. So he told us to wait
until they were ready for us. Tim and Cindy went in first and
several men dressed up as warriors jumped out of trees with spears and
made a big fuss. Then they decided that we were peaceful and
motioned us all to land. Then they escorted us down to their
little church/hut where about 80 villagers were waiting to watch the
ceremony. |
